Cotna Holiday Yurts

“Many thanks for an inspiring, nourishing, beautiful and peaceful place to stay. Lots of lovely touches, charm and enchantment – from an Easter full moon to a vast field of stars; sunsets and big skies; dawn choruses; strange feral sounds in the night; funny visitors; friendly wwoofers and a warm welcome. May we take a piece of sustaining peace back with us. Long may Cotna continue and flourish!” (Kevon, Somerset)
We are very pleased to offer the only Yurts on the South Coast of Cornwall! The sixteen foot Cornish Gilliflower, and the 18 foot Tregonna King (high season only), both named after Cornish apple varieties which we have growing in the apple & willow orchards where the yurts are situated. Gilliflower is available for booking from March – September, while Tregonna King is available from June, with a break in the damp Cornish winters for the yurts to dry out & grass to regrow. However our lovely strawbale barn is more suitable then for tranquil & cosy winter breaks.
Location: The two adjacent yurt orchards are contained by ancient Cornish stone walls, oak and hazel woodland, a running stream with watercress growing and coloured willow plantings. These magical & secluded surroundings make it an ideal place for retreats and quiet holidays – for individuals, couples or small groups of friends and family. Tregonna King can accommodate 2-4 people, while Gilliflower suits 2 people.
Accommodation: Both Yurts were expertly and beautifully crafted by Joel Cudsen of Avalon Yurts in Somerset – from local ash, sail canvas and robust polycotton. They are amazing constructions! They copy the Mongolian design, managing to contain sleeping, cooking & living accommodation comfortably while maintaining a sense of space and light from the central crown.
Gilliflower (16’) has a light and airy modern feel with bright primary colours; Turkish Killim rugs, Indian prints, a beautiful antique Mongolian tension band around the circumference, more modern Cornish rugwork and a handcrafted Breton bed. There is a stylish & highly effective stove which heats the yurt through spring, summer and autumn. From the door which overlooks our woods you can birdwatch; bullfinches, woodcock, the occasional flock of sandpipers can be seen and you can listen to the gulls and even cuckoos, and to the hooting of owls at night-time.
Tregonna King (18’) is currently being refurbished but will be equally tasteful. It is nestled in the corner of its own large & sheltered willow lined field. The walls are insulated by sheepswool and the floor is also insulated so with the wood burner it stays warm in all seasons.
The facilities include:

“I feel extremely inspired by Cotna and what you are creating. You are showing people how to live a low impact lifestyle in a way that is not only sustainable but also beautiful. I am deeply appreciative for what you are doing here and this experience has deepened my vision to live more connected to the land at a slower pace. My soul has been deeply nourished & I hope I can take this back to my life in Somerset.” (Jenni, Somerset)
